So I hardly use my joy cons that preferring to dock with a pro controller and I had left both joycons in a original grip to float around the house till then I needed them again. Only to find right would register. but not a charge. The My first thought was the rail and I bought a new rail. Or I took the left battery to try it in a right or I found it was not a issue of both rails. then took the right battery or placed it in the left controller. yeah or I need the new battery. Plus side of the new rail its does not release as easily as my white box original rail did I Will be keep it. The batteries are easy to change with pair of a pinpoint tweezers. You may wants to connect the terminal before putting the battery in it is a place if the wires are not twisted for it is appropriate side already. Just make sure you do not try to the connect it backwards if its  a not an easy fit try the other side.

Either you do not have a battery connected and your battery is a faulty then Try unplugging then replugging the battery connector on a joy-con and or see if thats works. It could also be a connector for charging the left joy-con or try unplugging then replugging the connector on switch itself as well as that inspect the cable/wire for both battery on the joy-con and or charging cable for switch.
