The original Guild Wars just reached its highest number of players in 13 years helped by its 20th anniversary celebrations. The game has been around for 20 years and still means a lot to many fans.

Want to feel old? It's been 20 years since the classic MMORPG Guild Wars came out and developer ArenaNet is celebrating with a special in game festival.

Guild Wars anniversary events feature special in-game drops the return of minigames like Rollerbeetle Racing and Dragon Arena and the chance to get a hellhound pet. Players who’ve been with the game for eight years will also get a special gift box.

The anniversary event caused Guild Wars player count to reach a 13-year high. Normally there are about 100-200 players online at once but during the anniversary that number jumped to 699.

It may not seem like much compared to Last Epoch’s 150,000+ players but it's still a big achievement for a game that's been around for 20 years and had a sequel.

The anniversary events brought players back but the game also has a strong sense of nostalgia. A popular Reddit thread has players both old and new sharing memories of playing the game like bonding with family mastering their class or relaxing to the soundtrack. Guild Wars celebration events will run until May 6. and the game is 80% off on Steam right now.
