A Reddit user, who says they were part of an Activision focus group, claims a new Prototype game is being made and will bring back Alex Mercer from the first game.
As fans of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Guitar Hero are well aware, Activision is sitting on a gold mine of abandoned or dormant franchises. These are just some of the big examples when it comes to the company's unused IP but there are also some sleeper hits that pop up every now and then.
Perhaps one of the most forgotten, but most fondly remembered Activision series is Prototype, a series created by the now defunct Radical Entertainment that forced you to explore an open-world Cause chaos in New York City using powerful shapeshifting abilities. There were two games in the series, but that's about to change.
Prototype Series May Return Says Focus Group Member
According to Insider Gaming and a Reddit user named BigBuy, this information comes from a recent focus group by Activision. Along with learning more about Black Ops 7, the redditor was also informed of a new prototype game that is currently in development.
The Reddit post detailing the leak is primarily focused around Black Ops, but BigBuy has eventually claimed that another prototype is being planned, which will feature the first game's protagonist and the second game's villain in prominent roles. Like other games in the series, the gameplay will apparently involve shapeshifting turning into other people to infiltrate areas and will have New York City as its backdrop.
Insider Gaming reached out to BigBy who explained that this information was obtained from an NDA survey by YouGov which then confirmed the features that will be included in the upcoming game including the new prototype. Insider Gaming could not confirm this information itself, but thought it would be fair to report on it.
While games have leaked in this way before, it seems a little hard to believe now, even if it is only a little bit. Anyone on Reddit can make claims, but there's no real proof right now. That’s important since Prototype hasn’t been worked on for a long time. At the moment it is nice to think about it, but it's not advisable to have too many expectations.
