Skull and Bones Revival: Ubisoft Offers Limited-Time Free Trial

Ubisoft has released a free trial for Skull & Bones to go with the start of Year 2 Season 1. It’s a great time to try the pirate game for yourself.

If you've been unsure about playing Skull & Bones now is a great time to try it. Ubisoft has shared big plans for Year 2 to help bring the struggling pirate game back to life. Right now they are also offering a free weekend. With Assassin's Creed Shadows coming soon Ubisoft hopes to see more success and maybe Skull & Bones will be part of that too. Plus I can not pass up the chance to play video games for free.

I won't say much more on this, Ubisoft's foray into online piracy was a disaster. Our Skull & Bones review was nothing short of stellar and the consensus from critics and players was that this live service game did not have the potential it needed to survive. When Ubisoft decided to shut down XDefiant. I thought Skull & Bones would be the next step.

Luckily this is not a pirate multiplayer game. We are now in Year 2, Season 1 and Ubisoft has some big plans. A new item ascension feature helps you enhance your gear in surprising ways with random enhancements and variable slots. You can also choose between world tiers, which are alternating levels of difficulty with different challenges across oceans. These challenges offer even better rewards (including ascendant items) so they are perfect for those looking to gear up.

You can also try a new PvP mode this season called Death Tides. It is a team-based game where you aim to control the map. You can use your own loadout or choose from a few powerful ships carrying all your rewards and XP into the main game.

In Season 2 of Year 2 Ubisoft is adding new features to Skull & Bones. You can now control a new ship called the Frigate, which is bigger and has more weapons for extra damage. It also includes a tough skirmish and a megafort to conquer. Season 3 however is where things get exciting. It will bring reputation and officer systems plus the long awaited land combat feature. While we do not know exactly how land battles will work yet. it should change the way you play the game.

Skull & Bones Year 2 Season 1 is live and you can play it for also free on Xbox and PlayStation or Ubisoft Connect until Monday April 21. But this free play is not available on Steam for PC.
