Spellrogue 1.0 is out now combining ideas from Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons. It adds a fourth character and a final chapter to the roguelike deckbuilder.
Last year popular deckbuilding games like Balatro and Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers focused on playing cards. In 2025, dice are becoming the new trend. Spellrogue is a clever twist on the genre mixing dice based gameplay from Dicey Dungeons with the strategy of games like Slay the Spire. Made by Guidelight Games and published by the studio behind Deep Rock Galactic it launched in early access in February 2024 and now has a strong 87% very positive rating on Steam. The full version is out now.
Spellrogue is like other great roguelike games every time you play you take a new path. In battles your spells appear at the bottom of the screen. You roll dice and match the numbers to the right spell slots to use them. Some spells do more damage with higher dice while others break the dice into smaller pieces. There are over 350 spells each with two upgrades so it will take a long time to try everything.
Spellrogue 1.0 adds a lot of new content. It includes the final chapter of the main story and many new enemies to fight. The game teases Unlock the truth unravel the secrets of the universe and prepare for the end. To help players a new character joins the game: Sefyra the Windcaller. She is the fourth playable character alongside Azar or Lapis and Hazel. Sefyra uses air magic including wind lightning and aura spells.
Her air magic uses status effects special dice and strong combos. You can build her deck in many different ways because her skills work well with different types of cards. Some of her skills move around on your board based on the dice you use triggering special effects. Others give extra bonuses to nearby skills so you need to think about where you place them.
The update adds daily challenges to keep you playing regularly plus more of everything new spells rituals artifacts magic dice music and achievements. There are also improvements to make the game easier to enjoy like speed settings to change how fast things move and support for more languages
