The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 are often called the best zombie games ever made. With the second season of HBO’s show now airing fans are coming back to enjoy the story again and new players are experiencing it for the first time.
Days Gone’s Time May Be Over But It’s Still Worth Playing
It’s clear that fans of The Last of Us HBO show should try the games that inspired it but Days Gone didn’t get much attention when it was released in 2019.
There are good reasons for that and I won’t pretend the game is perfect. It had bugs was missing depth and variety and the creative director was not great. You can look up more about him but I’m not going to waste time talking about him.
Days Gone is a great game and one of my favorite zombie games only second to The Last of Us Part 2. It’s similar in many ways while the gameplay is not as impressive as Naughty Dog’s the world tension crafting and growing sense of fear are almost just as good.
Sneaking through an overgrown building making molotov cocktails just in case and avoiding a zombie horde while hoping nothing worse comes along makes you feel like you have been thrown into this world and have to do whatever it takes to survive.
Moving quietly through the ruins of an overgrown building making molotov cocktails just in case and carefully avoiding a zombie horde you hope the worst does not find you. It feels like you have been thrown into this world and have to do whatever it takes to survive.
An Open-World The Last of Us with Motorbikes: Why Days Gone Stands Out
Days Gone may not have the emotional story or great characters like The Last of Us but it is still a fun open-world zombie adventure. It has crafting tense stealth moments and the main character Deacon St. John shows a lot of anger as he fights through zombies and humans.
Days Gone gives you great freedom. If you liked the open areas in Seattle from The Last of Us Part 2 you will enjoy this. Instead of a horse you ride a cool motorbike. The bike is important for the game you have to take care of its condition fuel and be careful with how much noise it makes.
I'm not saying Days Gone will be your new favorite zombie game but the remaster is a great chance to try it one more time. Since its 2019 release many of the big issues have been fixed and now with the PS5 and PC remaster it is the perfect time for those who have not played it to give it a try.
