The Hundred Line has received praise from many people including the director of Clair Obscur Expedition 33. but its developer might have to shut down.
The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy has received a lot of praise even from the director of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. But the developer TooKyo Games is in financial trouble and needs the game to sell well to stay in business. It must have felt strange for them to get a recommendation from such a well-known director while facing such big challenges.
A fellow developer recommended it to me and also Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was one of the two most popular games during The Hundred Line's launch week along with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
Kazutaka Kodaka the creator of the Danganronpa series and founder of TooKyo Games said the studio is close to shutting down. He mentioned this while answering a question about bringing The Hundred Line to other platforms.
I want to start right away if I can pay off my debt and have enough money to run the business. But right now we are still close to shutting down.
Like the original Danganronpa The Hundred Line has a group of strange students stuck in a weird school. But instead of taking part in class trials you have to fight off monsters attacking the building.
This game mixes visual novel and RPG features and is rated Very Positive on Steam. It has also reached over 10,000 players at once which is impressive. However it has had to face competition from both Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The release of Oblivion Remastered was unexpected making it hard to prepare for.
Kodaka said they don't plan to release Hundred Line on other platforms and the chances of it happening are very low. He also mentioned wanting to update the Steam and Switch versions and add support for multiple languages.
His first post received support. but it's unclear if TooKyo Games will make enough money from The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy to stay in business.
You can get The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy on Steam and try the free demo to see if you like it. Also check out the best visual novels and JRPGs for more options.
