Krafton is changing the name of its mobile game from Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons while the original PC version is facing a legal issue with Ironmace.
Earlier this year Krafton launched the mobile game Dark and Darker Mobile in Canada. Because players really liked it. they also released it in the U.S. Now the developers say the game will keep going but with a new name.
Starting Wednesday, June 11 the game Dark and Darker Mobile will be renamed to Abyss of Dungeons. The developers said they chose a new name to better match the game's style and future plans.
The new title talks about the dark places where the game happens and the tough fights to stay alive. With this change we want to show that we are working hard to make the game better and more fun for players.
Krafton says that all your progress in Dark and Darker Mobile will stay safe. The game’s main features will not change. Abyss of Dungeons will come out in Indonesia, Brazil, Thailand and Mexico. But the global release which was planned for 2025 is delayed and there is no new date yet.
Krafton’s announcement did not say Ironmace or the PC version of Dark and Darker by name. Ironmace is involved in a legal case. In 2023 Nexon a Korean company, sued Ironmace. Nexon said some Ironmace workers used Nexon’s game ideas to make Dark and Darker. A South Korean court decided that Ironmace did not copy Nexon’s work but did break rules about secret business information. Ironmace has to pay about 5.9 million dollars because of this.
After that, the PC version of Dark and Darker was removed from the Epic Games Store. Ironmace said this happened because of claims from other people involved in a legal fight that is still going on.
Earlier this year a Krafton official talked about why Dark and Darker Mobile changed its name. They said the change was their own choice and not because of any legal problems. Also nothing in the game like content or systems will change.
