Civilization 7 is having a tough time but Ara History Untold is getting better with a big new update that improves nearly everything.
Ara History Untold is a strategy game that more people should be talking about. With Civilization 7 not getting the best response many players are looking for a good alternative and Ara might be it. It’s a deep challenging 4X game (which stands for explore, expand, exploit and exterminate) full of smart choices and big decisions. If you miss the older Civilization games Ara brings back that kind of strategy.
The game didn’t have the best launch back in September and it came out just after Civilization 7 was announced which didn’t help. But since then the developers have released several updates and the game has slowly improved. The latest update called the Living Strategy update is one of the biggest yet. It was made with help from Stardock the creators of Sins of a Solar Empire and it adds a lot more depth and challenge to the game.
Even though the overall Steam reviews are still mixed the recent reviews (from the last 30 days) are much better about 75% of players now give it a positive rating. If you’re tired of games like Stellaris, Age of Empires or Civ Ara History Untold could be your next favorite strategy game.
The map system in Ara: History Untold has been improved. Now players start in better locations and resources are placed more carefully across the map. The game is a mix of a strategy game and a city-builder. One of its key features is managing and producing resources. You can zoom out to see the whole world or zoom in to look closely at your towns. Before when you zoomed out you couldn’t see important details like how your factories were doing how happy your citizens were or how much you were producing. But with the new Living Strategy system those details stay visible even when zoomed out making it easier to manage everything.
Also when you reach the modern era in the game your cities will look more crowded and full of life. The game has also been optimized to run better. It now uses less CPU power has fewer frame rate drops and each turn loads faster.
The new Living Strategy update for Ara: History Untold brings two big changes. First the way you gather resources is now much easier. Before you had to tell each citizen exactly what to do. But now you can set general rules or policies and your people will follow them automatically. This means you don’t have to manage every small detail anymore.
Second the computer-controlled enemies (AI) are now much smarter. Players had said the AI was too weak especially in the later part of the game. With this update your rivals will build stronger cities, train better armies and be more aggressive if their personality is that way. They also won’t keep offering money to stop wars anymore.
The Living Strategy update is free for all players and is available starting today Wednesday, June 18. It comes with new DLC called Untold Scenarios which costs $9.99 if you want to buy it.
