Arc Raiders Dev Apologizes for Launch Date Confusion and Mismanaged Hype

After players thought an ARG meant Arc Raiders was secretly released at Summer Game Fest Embark Studios said sorry for the mix-up.

The makers of Arc Raiders, Embark Studios said sorry to fans for creating confusion before Summer Game Fest. They had a countdown that made some players think the game would be released or get a beta during the event. But that didn’t happen. Instead they just revealed the release date. Now the studio admits they got people too excited by mistake.

At Summer Game Fest Embark Studios announced that Arc Raiders will come out on Thursday, October 30. This could have been a big moment for the game especially since the last playtest went really well. But for some players it wasn’t that exciting. That’s because earlier this year the community took part in a big ARG (alternate reality game) that built up a lot of hype.

In May a Reddit user named kzrts noticed that a Steam update for Arc Raiders had a link to a countdown website. The countdown ended on Friday, June 6 the same day as Summer Game Fest. Since there was no launch date yet people started guessing what it meant. Many thought the game might suddenly release that day. But after the event there was no surprise release. Instead the game’s launch date was finally announced.

Now that we know the release date for Arc Raiders the team at Embark Studios shared a message about the recent teaser and said sorry for getting players hopes up by mistake.

Before we announced the date for Arc Raiders we started a countdown to June 6. This made people think the game would be released that day. But instead we just revealed that the game is coming on October 30. So it was really just a countdown to another countdown Embark said on Discord. We understand that this confused and disappointed many of you and that’s completely our fault.

We shared the teaser because we were really excited to finally have a real date. But we understand now that what we thought was fun and exciting felt confusing and frustrating to many of you. We got it wrong and we're very sorry it caused disappointment.

Embark says it is now focused on finishing Arc Raiders before its launch in October. They said Games need to feel smooth, fun and well-balanced to succeed. We need more time to make sure the game meets your expectations.
