Game developer Localthunk has now completed the final Balatro Completionist achievement. This means they’re more prepared to work on update 1.1.
The developer of Balatro known as Localthunk is very happy right now because they’ve finally beaten the hardest challenge in their own game. Balatro is a popular indie card game that became a big hit when it came out in 2024 and a big new update is planned for 2025. After a lot of hard work and frustration the creator has fully completed the game 100% and says this has helped them feel ready to finish the upcoming 1.1 update.
Balatro was one of the most loved indie games of last year. It even became Game of the Year on Gamefusionusa and got nominated at The Game Awards. It’s also on our list of the best PC roguelike games. The game has simple rules but the many ways you can build your deck especially using jokers make it easy to get into and very hard to stop playing.
After Balatro became popular the game got lots of cool crossover content through the Friends of Jimbo packs. But the most exciting thing is that a big gameplay update is coming for free sometime in 2025. Many players have kept playing while waiting for it. Some are even trying to unlock the hardest achievement in the game, called Completionist++.
A few weeks ago the game's developer Localthunk said they had collected 146 out of the 150 gold stickers needed for that achievement. These stickers come from beating the game with every joker on the hardest level. Localthunk joked they were getting a taste of my own medicine. Now they’ve confirmed they finally did it. I have 100% completed Balatro they said. It was really fun to chase the Completionist++ goal. I play a few games before bed and it’s become a nice part of my daily routine.
After all the hard work the mysterious developer is now in a great position to think about what’s coming next. They said I think all this helped me get ready to design the 1.1 update better. I’m excited to do it again with the new content. That makes a lot of sense spending so much time trying to win with rare and tricky builds really helps you learn more about how Balatro works.
When asked about their favorite decks the developer Localthunk shared that they mostly used Ghost decks sometimes Painted and even Yellow. Occasionally they would try a random deck just for fun. It’s easy to see why trying to land big ghost cards while building a strong setup for unusual jokers sounds both fun and smart. Now that they’ve succeeded I’m really looking forward to the strange and creative ideas they’ll bring to Balatro 1.1.
