Civilization 7 made by the creators of XCOM 2 and Marvel's Midnight Suns is getting a big update with new maps.
Civilization 7 has had a rough start. The game tries to refresh the classic Civ formula by adding bold new features. One of the biggest changes is a system called Ages. It’s meant to make Civ 7 stand out and help it compete with other history-based strategy games like Ara: History Untold, Age of Empires 4 and Total War: Pharaoh. But even though Ages is different and interesting many players aren't happy with it.
Ages in Civilization 7 split the game into different time periods. Each time the era changes some of your progress resets. The game starts in Antiquity and goes through to Modern times. Many players don’t like this because it makes the game feel broken up and less smooth.
Update 1.2.2 fixes some problems in the game. It adds Large and Huge map sizes and new options. These include Steam Workshop support the choice to turn Legacy Paths on or off and ways to change how hard the AI is how aggressive Independent Powers are and which crises happen in the game.
The biggest change in the new update is a new system that lets you skip civ unlocks. Now when you move to the next Age you can choose any civ even if you haven’t unlocked it through your choices in the game.
Firaxis knows that players aren’t happy with some parts of Ages. One big issue is that players don’t feel like their empire has a strong identity or stays the same across different Ages. To fix this Firaxis will make changes in future updates. In July small updates will improve the end of Age countdowns and transitions. Bigger changes will come later.
Civilization 7's Update 1.2.2 is planned to come out on Tuesday, June 17.
