Doom 3 may not be the best game in the series but its dark and creepy atmosphere thanks to great lighting makes exploring Mars interesting. A group of modders called Team Future used the game to create a big fan-made expansion called Doom 3: Phobos which adds a new story. Now GOG has made it easier to find and install mods and Phobos is available there again.

Team Future takes Doom 3 and turns it into a bigger horror game with a new story. It happens during the same time as the original Doom 3. You play as a person with memory loss who wakes up hurt on Mars. As you explore you slowly learn about your past through flashbacks. At the same time you work with a megacorporation agent to survive the alien invasion on Mars.

Doom 3: Phobos has four episodes. The first one called Overdue was released in 2018. The second Disruption came out in 2020. The third Collapse was released in June 2024. The fourth and final episode has not been released yet.

The expansion brings a new story brand-new maps and enemies updates to old areas and monsters and best of all a better shotgun for those who didn’t like the one in Doom 3.

You can play Doom 3: Phobos for free but you need to own Doom 3 and its Resurrection of Evil expansion to install it. For more info or to download check it out on GOG.
