Dune Awakening Hits Big on Steam as Survival MMO Craze Grows

The survival MMO Dune: Awakening has reached its highest number of players on Steam even more than a week after it first launched. The game’s developer Funcom thanked the players for their support.

Dune Awakening got off to a great start with over 100,000 players joining early through the deluxe or ultimate editions. But what really matters for MMOs is keeping players coming back. Now ten days later and almost a week after the full release even more people are playing. The game has also become one of the top sellers on Steam in both the U.S. and the U.K. making developer Funcom very happy.

Dune Awakening is a survival game with big online servers where lots of players can play together. It's meant to be a shared experience, so having many active players is important. You can play alone on a private server if you want but it's more fun to see everyone searching for water and then suddenly getting attacked by a giant sandworm.

Funcom says it’s very thankful for the support from players media and creators and is amazed by the positive response. The game has a strong Steam review score 86% positive from over 23,000 reviews. This is impressive especially since the launch hasn’t been perfect. Daily patches have caused some server issues and a crash in the Deep Desert area made them temporarily turn off the quicksand feature.

People are really enjoying Dune Awakening. On Saturday, June 15 ten days after the early launch and five days after the full release the number of players on Steam went way up. It hit a peak of 175,569 players which is over 23% more than before. That’s a lot of people playing and getting better at the game.

Go to Valve's Steam top sellers list and you’ll see Dune: Awakening has jumped up eight places to become the top-selling game by revenue in the U.S. Even more impressive the Ultimate Edition is ranked 8th and the Deluxe Edition is 11th. In the U.K. all three versions are also doing well ranked 2nd, 6th, and 8th with only the Steam Deck selling more than the main game.
