Fallout 76 Adds Fishing Major Building Update Coming Soon

Fallout 76’s Gone Fission season is out now. Gamefusionusa talked to Bethesda about a future update that will improve building and may add super mutants.

Fallout 76's new update Gone Fission is here and it finally adds fishing to the game. This update is pretty big but there’s still more to come. At Summer Game Fest 2025 the game’s creative director Jon Rush and lead producer Bill LaCoste shared what’s planned for the rest of the year. They mentioned a major building upgrade is on the way and teased one of the biggest and most exciting updates the game has ever had.

The new fishing update for Fallout 76 launched without any problems Rush says. People are really enjoying it. I think they just love fishing especially when they can do it with friends in the Wasteland. It's a lot of fun. I'm also impressed with how Bethesda handled it they didn’t just add a small minigame they made the whole season of the game focus on fishing.

The fishing in Fallout 76 works really well. It might not be the best ever games like Stellar Blade use the controller in smart ways and Stardew Valley is still a favorite even if it's tricky but it's better than many other games. As LaCoste says It’s not just simple fishing. There’s a lot going on. You’re not limited to a few spots or a dock you can fish anywhere you can swim.

Players are building their own small fishing villages and trying to catch rare fish using weather effects like radstorms and thunderstorms. There are lots of rewards to earn and LaCoste says it's fun because there are many little systems to explore and interact with.

Rush said the team had been talking about adding fishing for a long time and Bethesda was excited to finally do it. He explained that the timing felt right because over the past year and a half they had added big features like the first raid (Gleaming Depths) powerful new four-star legendary gear and even the option to turn your character into a ghoul. Since it's summer and these updates were done they thought players would enjoy something more fun and social like fishing.

If you’ve been playing other games for hours doing long raids and pressing lots of buttons you’ll want a break LaCoste says with a laugh. That’s what Fallout 76 and Gone Fission are for. After fighting big bosses like the Scorchbeast Queen it’s nice to just relax at your camp talk with friends and go fishing.

The future of Fallout 76 looks exciting but the team isn’t ready to share details yet. Rush says they’ve had some great updates recently and things will keep getting better. A big update is coming this December and it will be one of the biggest ever for the game. But for now they’re keeping it a surprise.

I'm going to go back a bit one season after Gone Fission we're bringing a great update for our building community, which includes almost everyone Rush says. It will give players more building tools and make building easier. It's going to be a great update and I’m excited for players to try it. Gone Fission is just the beginning there's much more to come.
