Jump Ship is a new FPS that mixes Helldivers 2-style co-op action with No Man’s Sky-style space travel. It’s become a big hit at Steam Next Fest.
Arrowhead Games did something amazing with Helldivers 2. They turned their original top-down space shooter into a big exciting game while keeping everything fans loved. But now a new game called Jump Ship is becoming strong competition. It’s a co-op space shooter and already has over 700,000 wishlists. It was one of the most popular demos during Steam Next Fest and is expected to release later this year.
Jump Ship plays a lot like Helldivers or Deep Rock Galactic. You and your team land on a planet explore the area and collect weapons gear and loot. Then you have to make it back to your ship and escape before it's too late. Along the way you’ll face waves of enemies that keep getting tougher so sticking together and helping each other is really important. The most thrilling part comes when it's time to take off getting out alive can be intense and action-packed.
Instead of just waiting on a loading screen or sitting in a lobby you and your team actually fly the ship through space to reach the next mission. Along the way you might run into random events. It all feels smooth and connected kind of like No Man's Sky and helps make Jump Ship feel big and exciting just like the best space games.
One player drives the ship through dangerous asteroid fields while others can use turrets to fight off enemies or grab fire extinguishers to put out fires after battles. The more materials you collect during missions the more you can upgrade your ship to make it stronger hit harder and handle the challenges of space better.
Jump Ship mixes action and teamwork in a fun and personal way unlike Helldivers which focuses more on big loud military style. It became the third most popular demo in Steam Next Fest showing that players are really enjoying it. The demo includes a short tutorial and a few missions from the first area with full multiplayer for up to four players. It's just a small preview of the full game but it's already getting a lot of attention.
Jump Ship will launch in 2025. The demo is available until Monday, June 16, so if you're reading this soon. you might still have time to try it out and see why everyone’s talking about it.
