Marvel Rivals Update Changes Surrender System – Good or Bad?

NetEase Games is updating the surrender system in Marvel Rivals to make it easier for players to end matches early.
Marvel Rivals Update Changes Surrender System – Good or Bad?
I’ve spent a lot of time playing Marvel Rivals and I’ve rarely seen a team vote to surrender actually go through. That’s because all six players on your team have to agree for the match to end early and that almost never happens. Honestly I think that’s a good thing. It encourages you to stick with the game until the end and sometimes if you play smart and counter the enemy well you can actually turn things around and win.

But now Netease Games is planning to change how surrendering works. Soon you won’t need everyone on your team to agree. In a full six-player squad only five players need to vote yes to surrender. If someone leaves and you’re down to five or four players the vote can still pass without everyone agreeing. However if your team drops to just two or three people then all of you will still need to vote yes for the surrender to happen.

I’m not sure if this new change is good or bad. On one hand if your team is losing badly and most of your teammates agree to surrender it makes sense to lower the number of votes needed to end the match. That way you don’t get stuck playing just because one player doesn’t want to quit. But on the other hand it might lead to some teams giving up too early even when they still have a chance to make a comeback. Rivals is one of the best multiplayer games right now so I really hope this change doesn’t hurt the experience too much.

One important thing to remember is that Rivals doesn’t have a fixed role queue like Overwatch. Players can switch between tank healer and damage roles anytime during the game. This lets teams change strategies quickly which makes matches feel more dynamic and exciting. So even with the new surrender rule maybe players will try harder to turn the game around by changing heroes and roles to counter the enemy instead of giving up early.

The upcoming Marvel Rivals patch is coming on Thursday, June 26. Along with changes to the surrender system Netease Games is also fixing some small bugs with a few heroes. Winter Soldier, Magneto, Mister Fantastic, Iron Fist and Doctor Strange had some minor issues that were affecting their powers but those problems will be fixed in this new update.
