Many new soccer games are trying to challenge EA FC (formerly FIFA) which has dominated the soccer game market. Games like UFL and Goals want to compete with EA’s realistic 11-player soccer matches. But the next popular soccer game might not need to focus on being super realistic or having official teams. Rematch for example uses a more fun stylized style and lets players team up. I didn’t expect it to be very popular but it looks like it will be. The developer said almost two million people played its latest beta making it one of the most played games on Steam during that time.

Rematch is a fun soccer game where you play as just one player on a team of five. Instead of the usual side view you see the field from behind your player. There are no offsides or fouls so the game keeps moving quickly. You can run and dodge other players but it’s more fun to pass the ball to your teammates to score goals together. The movements are smooth and fast like in the martial arts game Sifu by the same makers. Overall it’s a cool and new kind of soccer game that many people want to try.

Rematch won’t be a free PC game when it comes out later this month. It costs $29.99 or £20.99 if you want to pre-order it now. But the latest open beta was free to play. Sloclap said that almost 1.9 million players tried it on Steam and consoles. That’s a lot more than I thought for a sports game like this. In total people played over 6.7 million matches.

The beta was very popular on Steam even though Steam usually has fewer sports game players than consoles. It stayed in the top five most-played games on Steam for all four days it was available. That’s really impressive.

Now people will watch closely to see if the excitement from the beta lasts for the full game. The Rematch will come out on Thursday, June 19 So it won’t be long before it’s here.

Sifu was very popular but I didn’t think Rematch would be as popular because it’s more of a sporty game. But now it looks like this fun small soccer game will be one of the biggest new PC games this year. It’s a big surprise Also don’t forget to try some other great multiplayer games you can play on PC Right Now.
