The new Stellaris Wilderness open beta is live now. It tests some new changes to the popular origin in the 4X space strategy game.
The open beta for Stellaris Wilderness has started. Paradox the game's developer is testing changes to this new origin from the Biogenesis update. In Wilderness you play as a living planet that spreads its life to other star systems. It’s a unique and popular option in the game. However some small problems have come up. So game director Stephen Eladrin Muray is trying out a fix and asking players to help test it.
I talked to Muray in May about how Stellaris players reacted to Wilderness. He said he knew it would be interesting but was surprised by how popular it became. Muray noticed that players were too quick to spend all their biomass right away. He said We need to remind them not to use it all at once. Biomass is your population don’t eat all of it. Even though players are slowly understanding how it works the game still needs some changes.
A few weeks later in the latest developer update for the 4X game Muray said that Paradox noticed some strange behavior with Wilderness empires. This mostly happens when the biomass on a planet gets too low jobs sometimes go unfilled and players can’t always do anything about it. Because of this the Stellaris team has made some experimental changes but they think these changes are big enough that they need to be tested carefully before being added to the full game.
Now all Wilderness jobs are done automatically by your main species and don’t need biomass. This means construction won’t block access to resources. Muray says this change removes the big job bonus Wilderness pops used to get and makes the system work more like it was originally planned.
Jobs in the Wilderness are now shown more accurately. Before one worker with a big bonus handled everything. Now you can see how many people are working and adjust it using sliders. These changes help avoid bugs make sure all jobs get done and give you better control of your economy when resources are low. The developer Muray asks for your feedback.
The Stellaris Wilderness open beta is available now. It also has a new test feature called fast save transfer for multiplayer. To join, go to your Steam library right-click Stellaris choose Properties then go to the Betas tab. From the drop-down menu, select Wilderness Open Beta. Muray says the team will run the beta all summer to get feedback on the changes.
