Creative Assembly has shared what's new in Total War Warhammer 3 patch 6.2. The update changes magic items and adds new units to the strategy game.
Total War Warhammer 3 patch 6.2 is coming next week. The update will make big changes to magic items in the game. It will also add better enemy AI and new units for the Chaos Dwarfs and Vampire Counts. Senior game designer William HÃ¥kestad explains everything in a new developer blog.
We’re still waiting for more news about the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3 DLC Tides of Torment which recently introduced a new Norsca legendary lord. But for now the focus is on patch 6.2. The main highlight of this update is a big rework of magic items. Over time different magic items had become unbalanced so the team worked hard to make them more consistent and fair across the whole game.
A fix was tried before but HÃ¥kestad says it wasn’t enough. At first they only planned to adjust 80 items, which wasn’t nearly enough. So the team went back and rebalanced over 800 items, including common, uncommon and rare ones. They also changed how item rarity works so that each level feels more special.
HÃ¥kestad says you don’t need to worry about losing your favorite items. Before if an item was too strong for its level they would make it weaker. But now they’ve decided to make many of these items stronger instead keeping what made them special. Some items also had their rarity changed to better match how powerful they really are and those with strong-sounding names or descriptions were more likely to get buffs.
Along with these changes item drop rates have been reduced so your inventory won’t get filled with too much junk unless you build your army to find more loot. Also a new system now looks at what items you've already found and are using (or not using) in your campaign to give you a better mix of new items.
Item fusing now gives you a result from the same type of items you used. You can even try to fuse rare items to make a unique one but it's a risky move it usually fails and you’ll only get scrap. Also you can now have more than one of the same banner in your army, as long as the character also brings a banner.
Total War: Warhammer 3 patch 6.2 also adds two new units. Chaos Dwarfs now get Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers which are cheap and easy-to-use siege weapons. They don’t have the usual limits and are more accurate and reliable than goblin versions.
The Vampire Counts Blood Knights now have a new version that uses swords and shields instead of lances. They can't attack from as far but they survive longer in battle and can cut through groups of enemies more easily without taking much damage.
Creative Assembly will release Total War Warhammer 3 patch 6.2 next week along with full patch notes. For now you can check out HÃ¥kestad's detailed developer blog to see what's coming, including a sneak peek at some of the new special items if you don't mind a few spoilers.
