The new Total War Warhammer 3 update changes how magic items work and adds new units in the 6.2 patch.
A new update for Total War Warhammer 3 has arrived bringing a big change to how magic items work and adding some new units to the game. The developers at Creative Assembly have reworked magic items to make them more balanced across the game’s campaigns. Now you’ll find fewer items overall but the ones you do find will be more powerful and better suited to how your chosen faction plays. This update version 6.2, also makes changes like weakening Slaanesh’s mounted units fixing issues with abilities for summoned troops and even reducing the game’s storage size. All of this comes as we wait for the next big DLC Tides of Torment.
After some problems in late 2023 Creative Assembly has been doing a good job improving the game with regular updates. Total War Warhammer 3 is once again becoming one of the top Warhammer games on PC. Recently they announced two new legendary lords. Sayl and Dechala who will be part of the upcoming Tides of Torment DLC for Norsca and Slaanesh. But for now the focus is on update 6.2 and its major item overhaul which adjusts more than 600 magic items across the game common uncommon and rare making the loot system more fun and rewarding.
Senior game designer William HÃ¥kestad explained how the team changed the item system in the game. The main update is a new power budget system which helps make sure that an item’s strength matches how rare it is. Because of this some items have had their rarity changed and others have been balanced differently. The team also tried to keep powerful or fan-favorite items strong.
Now you’ll pick up fewer items overall but the ones you find will be more useful. Instead of completely random drops the game now uses a new system that gives you more variety. It also looks at what you already have and what you can use so you get better options. Item fusing has also been improved it now always gives you the same type of item you used to make it and sometimes you might even fuse rare items into something truly unique.
This update adds six new unique items for players to find. One of them is a powerful set called the Eight Burning Books of Khorne. These magical books are very rare and risky to use but they offer big rewards. Two new units are also added to the game. The Chaos Dwarfs now have Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers which are cheap and steady siege weapons. Meanwhile the Vampire Counts get a new version of Blood Knights who fight with sword and shield. These knights are better for fighting against groups of infantry and can last longer in battle.
These are the main updates for now. The developers at CA said they haven’t made changes to character-specific unique items or banners yet but they might do that in the future. Update 6.2 also makes the campaign AI smarter. There are two new settings one helps AI factions judge threats better and the other makes smaller factions more active in their decision-making.
The new Total War Warhammer 3 patch 6.2 is now available. It brings lots of small bug fixes game tweaks and balance changes. One important fix makes sure that abilities from special effects now properly work on summoned units like the Summoned Skink Priest, Krell and the Summoned Keeper of Secrets. Also units riding Steeds of Slaanesh now take up more space in combat so fewer of them can fight close together at the same time.
The update is a big download around 55.3 GB but there’s good news the game now takes up less space on your computer thanks to better compression. For example my own game size dropped from 113.16 GB to just 82.16 GB after the update. You can read all the patch notes on the Creative Assembly website.
