The game has a fun classic '90s anime style inspired by shows like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, One Piece and Cowboy Bebop. In this trial version you can play the first three episodes and see if you like it.

Just seeing a little bit of Wander Stars made me interested. It looks like a 90s anime with bright colors and expressive characters that made me feel nostalgic. But it's not just pretty to look at this turn-based RPG also has a fun story where you travel through space to find pieces of a special map and your missing brother.

In Wander Stars you create your attacks by combining different words like actions, modifiers and elements kind of like building a sentence. It’s inspired by card games and anime-style move names. For example if your spirit level is high enough you can make a move like Super Huge Dragon Kick where: Super boosts damage Huge makes it hit all enemies and Dragon adds special elemental effects.

Each word you use has a cooldown so you need to think before using them to fight enemies in the best way. It’s a smart idea similar to how Expedition 33 lets you mix and match abilities. The game has over 200 words so you’ll keep trying new combos all the way to the end.

The full game will have ten episodes each taking about 60 to 90 minutes to finish. For now the developer Paper Castle Games is offering the first three chapters for free in a Steam beta. This beta is available for a limited time and gives you a big part of the game to try including the story characters and combat.
