The full War Thunder Leviathan update patch notes are out and they bring lots of new vehicles including several well-known battleships.
The new War Thunder Leviathans update is out now and it brings a lot of exciting changes to the popular free war game on Steam. This big patch adds many new vehicles, including tanks SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile) vehicles, aircraft and famous battleships from real naval history. There are also changes to maps a new multi-vehicle SAM system and updates to the game interface like a radar control screen and extra action buttons for easier gameplay.
War Thunder continues to be one of the top war games with nearly 100,000 players online every day. It offers both PvE and PvP combat works across different platforms and is known for its great graphics and sound. The Leviathans update is the second major update of 2025 and brings not just more vehicles but also helpful improvements that make the game better to play.
The biggest highlight of this update is the addition of several famous battleships. You can now use powerful warships like the Yamato, Bismarck, USS Iowa, HMS Vanguard and Sovetsky Soyuz. In the air the RAH-66 Comanche helicopter joins the battle fully loaded with strong weapons like Stinger missiles, Hydra rockets and Hellfire Bs. Japan also gets the much-requested F-2A fighter jet which is based on the F-16 and can easily attack both air and ground targets. Plus new Swiss aircraft have been added under Germany’s tech tree.
The update doesn’t forget ground vehicles either. For the first time you can use multi-vehicle SAM (surface-to-air missile) systems. These include America’s CLAWS Germany’s IRIS-T SLM and Japan’s Tan-SAM Kai. These systems let you start in a main radar vehicle and then place missile launchers around you. You can switch between them while playing. A new radar screen also shows a full 360-degree view and helps you track and lock on to enemy targets more easily.
A big new update brings top-quality air battles to a new location the Falkland Islands. This map is huge covering 130 by 130 kilometers with open hills and grassy plains that are perfect for exciting dogfights. Two other maps Berlin and Kuban have also been updated with better visuals. However the developers say these changes won’t affect gameplay much so they’ll still feel the same to play on.
The game’s user interface has also been improved. The action panel now includes new buttons for important tasks like raising or lowering landing gear switching to hover mode and turning on seekers. This makes it easier to play without having to memorize a bunch of key commands. Plus when your vehicle gets destroyed you’ll now see a card showing what vehicle and ammo your enemy used. And for players who like to show off the F-111 can now dump fuel to create a dramatic flame trail in the sky.
The War Thunder Leviathans update is coming out on Wednesday, June 25. You can check out all the details in the full patch notes shared by Gaijin Entertainment. One of the biggest changes is that in Air Realistic Battles taking down enemy aircraft carriers won’t automatically give you a win anymore. Also the AI gunners on ships have been made less accurate which means you now have a better chance to attack from the air if you fly smart and make good moves.
