No More Room in Hell 2 Deserves a Second Chance After Major Update
No More Room in Hell 2 is getting better but it’s still not fully polished. Some things like how zombies appear or where items are placed don’t feel quite right yet. People often think every game needs to be perfectly balanced but part of what makes NMRiH 2 interesting is that it’s tough and unpredictable. That said right now it can feel more frustrating than fun. Still the developer Torn Banner clearly has a strong idea of what they want the game to be. The latest update makes that vision clearer than ever. With games like Dying Light The Beast and State of Decay 3 coming soon No More Room in Hell 2 is starting to carve out its own space and feel unique.

Since it launched in early access back in October players have pointed out many issues. But one thing that’s really improved after six months is the pacing. This isn’t your typical fast-paced zombie shooter. It’s slow tense and punishing. Every action feels risky. Whether you’re picking up a flashlight battery or swinging a weapon it always feels like a big decision. At its best the game feels like Project Zomboid where nothing is simple and every choice matters. Like Zomboid NMRiH 2 forces you to think deeply and plan carefully. That serious weighty feeling is what sets it apart.

The game is looking really good and it proves how powerful a detailed gore system can be. Every little part of the game feels connected to the bigger design. Fighting zombies isn’t something you can rush through. You can’t just hit one and run away. You have to really fight it smashing its head seeing its brain and even pushing it back with your boot so it doesn’t get too close. In many games zombies feel like a joke or just part of a silly mechanic. But in No More Room in Hell 2 each zombie is treated seriously. Even one zombie alone can be dangerous if you’re not careful.

There are still things that need fixing. Right now there are too many zombies or they respawn too fast and too close which makes it hard to slow down and enjoy the world and its creepy atmosphere. Also the way gear is placed can be strange. Sometimes a big house has nothing while a random shed has all the best items. Still this new update for No More Room in Hell 2 feels like a solid step forward.

The biggest change in the game is the new extraction system. Now if only three players are still alive they don’t all have to work together to reach the main extraction point at the end. Instead each player can leave the level on their own at any time. If you choose to leave early you won’t keep any items you collected or gain experience points. But your character will survive which can be a smart move especially if you’ve been upgrading them for many days or weeks.

Some other updates include a new weakened state for zombies. When they get knocked to the ground they take double damage making them easier to kill. A new weapon has also been added the .22 caliber Gruber rifle. There’s also a new character named Lynch who helps you over the radio from CRC headquarters.

In April two new maps were added Pottsville and Lewiston. And next month a classic map called Broadway from the first NMRiH game will return in the sequel. With all these updates now is a great time to give No More Room in Hell 2 another try.
