Battlefield 6 Beta Shatters Call of Duty’s All-Time Player Record

The Battlefield 6 open beta has been a big hit even beating Call of Duty’s highest-ever player count on Steam this week.

Right now there are not many games in the world more exciting or talked about than Battlefield 6. Players who love first-person shooter games (FPS) from all over the world have been waiting for every little update watching all the trailers again and again and lining up online just to get into the open beta. Everyone knew the game was going to be popular but very few people imagined it would become this huge. Now that the first weekend of the Battlefield 6 open beta is over we can take a moment to think about what happened the matches we played the long queues we sat through to join a game and the records that were broken. And let’s be honest those records were not just broken they were completely smashed.

During the open beta’s peak Battlefield 6 had an incredible 521,079 players online at the same time. That’s over half a million people playing together driving tanks straight through buildings firing rockets into enemy bases sniping opponents from huge distances and experiencing massive battles across sprawling maps. What’s even more amazing is that despite so many people flooding the servers at once the game’s online system actually handled it fairly well most of the time with only a few hiccups here and there.

When you compare this to other huge FPS titles the numbers become even more impressive. For example Call of Duty one of the biggest shooter franchises in history reached its highest ever player count on Steam a little over two years ago when Warzone 2 was released. That peak was 491,670 players which is a huge number but still less than what Battlefield 6 just achieved. The fact that Battlefield 6 has already beaten a giant like Call of Duty in peak players during a beta test is shocking and says a lot about the hype surrounding it.

But does this automatically mean that Battlefield 6 will be the greatest FPS game in recent memory? Not necessarily. A high player count during a beta is exciting but the real test will be whether players keep coming back after the full release. Still if this weekend’s record-breaking numbers are anything to go by Battlefield 6 is off to an incredibly strong start.

The number of people who played the Battlefield 6 open beta was huge and surprising but that doesn’t mean every single one of them will buy the full game when it comes out. Some players might have tried it and realized they didn’t enjoy the gameplay. Others might have liked the beta but still won’t spend the expected $70 price for the full release. This kind of thing has happened before with other games.

If we look at Battlefield 2042 the last game in the series its open beta reached a peak of 156,665 players on Steam. However when the full game released the peak player count dropped to 107,376. One reason could be that the Battlefield 2042 beta wasn’t as well received as the Battlefield 6 beta seems to be. On the other hand there are games like Monster Hunter Wilds which had just under 500,000 players in its open beta but then almost tripled that number when the full game launched. Battlefield 6 could follow either path it could drop like Battlefield 2042 or rise like Monster Hunter Wilds.

Right now we can only make guesses about how Battlefield 6 will perform when it officially releases. Still the first open beta weekend was clearly a big win and some fans believe it shows the series is finally getting back on track. This is especially good news for players who have been disappointed by the more recent Battlefield games. Things seem to be looking positive for EA’s big war shooter.

If you played and enjoyed the open beta but want to get better before the next free weekend it’s a good idea to learn about the best Battlefield 6 weapons now so you’re ready. If you don’t feel like joining any more betas you can simply check the Battlefield 6 release date and catch up on everything else we know about the game so far.
