CrisisX has a map so big it makes even DayZ’s largest area look small but players will need to wait before they can try it out.
When people think about zombie games they usually picture fighting against huge waves of the undead. But the truth is many of the very best zombie experiences are not only about battling zombies directly. Instead they focus on what happens between the human survivors themselves. These games show how people come together when the world is falling apart and how quickly that unity can break down once food water and other supplies start to run out. Imagine a group of people working together to survive but then turning against each other just because there are no snacks no drinks or even no Twinkies left to eat. That type of drama makes zombie survival games much more than just shooting monsters it makes them stories about people teamwork trust betrayal and conflict.
This type of setting fits perfectly with big open-world survival sandbox games. These are games where players can explore huge areas build shelters gather supplies fight both zombies and other players and slowly form a sense of community. The world feels alive and the danger doesn’t just come from zombies it comes from other survivors who might fight for the same limited resources. Over the years games like DayZ and 7 Days to Die have become the top names in this survival-zombie genre. They’ve already done a lot to shape this niche creating big maps tense survival mechanics and player-driven stories that keep people coming back for more.
But now a developer from Hong Kong called Hero Games wants to bring something new to the table. Just ahead of Gamescom the studio officially revealed its massive new survival game called CrisisX and it looks like it could be one of the most ambitious zombie-themed games we’ve ever seen. The biggest talking point right away is its gigantic map. The developers say CrisisX will have a world that stretches across 1,200 square kilometers and this huge space will be able to host up to 5,000 players at the same time on a single server.
To understand how enormous this really is let’s compare it to something familiar. DayZ’s Badlands expansion which is being promoted as its biggest-ever map will only be 267 square kilometers. That means CrisisX’s map is several times larger. In fact it’s even bigger than the entire size of Hong Kong itself which is only 1,115 square kilometers. So CrisisX is promising a landmass larger than an actual country-sized region and all of it is designed to be explored by thousands of players together.
The developers also teased what kinds of places players will discover in this giant map. According to Hero Games the world will feature a wide range of locations such as western-style towns secret underground laboratories filled with mysteries snow-covered mountains fast-flowing rivers and more. They also confirmed that the game will contain 12 different biomes each with unique looks and challenges. The idea here is that the world will not just be big but also varied and visually interesting So players don’t get bored exploring the same types of environments again and again.
Of course the size of a map alone doesn’t guarantee a great game. What really matters is whether the developers can fill that massive space with enough quality content exciting encounters and meaningful exploration to keep people hooked. Still even with those doubts it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer ambition of what Hero Games is trying to create with CrisisX.
The official reveal trailer doesn’t even show everything the game has in store but maybe that’s a good thing. Leaving some things hidden keeps the mystery alive and encourages players to jump in and discover surprises for themselves. Hero Games has described CrisisX as a world of unlimited exploration. That’s a bold promise but when you think about how long it would take to fully travel through and explore every part of a map larger than the developers own homeland it feels like they might not be exaggerating too much.
In the end CrisisX isn’t just another zombie game. It’s a huge daring project that wants to combine the survival tension of games like DayZ with one of the biggest open worlds ever attempted in the genre. If it can deliver on even half of its promises it could easily become one of the most exciting open-world survival games to watch out for in the near future.
When it comes to gameplay CrisisX looks like it has all the important features that fans of survival games usually expect. In fact the game seems to include almost every basic activity you would normally find in the most popular survival titles. For example you’ll be able to go mining to collect resources spend time hunting animals for food and materials build structures to protect yourself and of course scavenge for supplies in the world around you. All of these systems are the foundation of any good survival game and it’s clear that CrisisX has worked to include them from the very beginning.
But survival isn’t just about what you do on foot. The developers have added several different ways to travel across the map as well. If you want to move through the world slowly and enjoy the scenery you can ride on horseback. If you prefer something faster and more modern there are vehicles you can drive making long journeys much quicker. For even bigger movements you can actually fly a chinook helicopter giving you a bird’s-eye view of the massive map. And if all of that wasn’t enough you can also take control of tanks letting you roll through enemies and unleash heavy firepower. It almost feels like the developers asked What’s the coolest way to travel in a survival game? and then decided to include all of them.
Of course no survival game would be complete without dangerous enemies. While CrisisX doesn’t have giant sandworms like we’ve seen in games such as Dune Awakening it does feature plenty of terrifying threats in the form of zombies or more specifically mutants. These creatures come in different shapes and sizes. Some of them are the more common grunt-like enemies that you can tear through quickly almost like in Left 4 Dead. But others are far more dangerous. There are titan mutants which are huge powerful monsters that won’t go down easily. Beating them will take strategy strong teamwork and a lot of firepower.
Thankfully CrisisX won’t leave you defenseless. The game offers a wide selection of weapons that come straight from real-world military arsenals. Players can use simple options like revolvers but they can also step things up with heavy weaponry such as RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades). If you run into a titan mutant you’ll definitely want to bring out the big guns like RPGs instead of wasting your time with weaker weapons. This massive variety in the arsenal means players can choose a style that suits them whether they prefer quick sidearms reliable rifles or explosive launchers.
As for when you can actually play the game the developers have already given us a release window. CrisisX is currently planned to launch in 2026. That may sound like a long wait but the good news is that you don’t have to just sit around and forget about it. You can add the game to your Steam wishlist right now which is a great way to keep track of updates and get notified the moment new information becomes available.
CrisisX seems to be shaping up as a massive and feature-packed survival game with everything from resource gathering and base building to vehicles helicopters tanks mutants and an arsenal of powerful weapons. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
