Diablo The Roleplaying Game is back after being quiet for almost two years. It promises that you won’t have to start as a weak beginner character.
Back in 2023 at an event called BlizzCon (which was a big event for Blizzard games) they finally told everyone that a Diablo tabletop RPG was coming. The company working on it is called Glass Cannon Unplugged. They are in charge of turning Diablo into a game you can play on a table with friends. But after that first announcement there was hardly any news about it. Fans were waiting and wondering when more information would come.
Now at last the project has returned with new updates. The game is called Diablo The Roleplaying Game and it has just been announced that a Kickstarter campaign is coming soon. This means fans can help support the game and maybe get early access or special rewards.
We also now know some early details about the game and it looks like it has a very talented team of writers and designers working on it. These are the people who create the story characters and game rules and they seem to know what they’re doing.
If you don’t know about Glass Cannon Unplugged they are really good at turning famous PC games into board games and TTRPGs (which stands for tabletop roleplaying games). They’ve already done this with games like Dying Light Apex Legends and Frostpunk. Soon it will be Diablo’s turn.
At BlizzCon almost two years ago they didn’t tell us very much about this project only that it was going to happen. But now because of the new Kickstarter page we have a lot more information to be excited about.
The Core Rulebook for Diablo The Roleplaying Game is very big and full of exciting things. It has more than 300 pages and inside you will find a lot of special rules made just for this game. It also includes deep stories about the world the history and the characters which is called lore. Along with that there is beautiful artwork that shows the world of Diablo in amazing detail. The people making the game Glass Cannon also promise that the book will come with a special collection of one-shot adventures. These are short stories you can play through in one sitting. The cool part is that some of the writers have also worked on big games and stories like Diablo The Lord of the Rings Warhammer and many more popular titles.
The game is being launched through Kickstarter and it confirms that the game will use a brand-new custom dice system. This system uses d6 dice (regular six-sided dice) and it has been carefully created by Joe LaFavi a well-known game designer. He worked with a team of other experienced and creative tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) experts to build this special system that fits Diablo's fast and epic style.
One of the most exciting things about Diablo The Roleplaying Game is how it starts. Unlike many other RPGs where you begin as a weak or low-level character and slowly grow stronger this game lets you start off as a powerful experienced demon slayer. Right from your first game session called session zero you play as a seasoned hero who already has great skills strong weapons and a reputation. The creators say there are no weak level 1 characters here and there is no slow build-up. Instead you jump straight into the action fighting dangerous enemies and living out your epic-level adventure from the very beginning.
Just like fans would want and expect the Diablo tabletop roleplaying game will include the most well-known and classic character classes from the Diablo series. So far the game has confirmed five main classes that players can choose from. These are the Barbarian who is very strong and fights up close the Druid who can use nature magic and even turn into animals the Necromancer who can summon skeletons and control the dead the Rogue who is fast and sneaky with ranged or close attacks and the Sorcerer who uses powerful elemental magic like fire ice and lightning. These are the same five main classes that were available in Diablo 4 before the new class called Spiritborn was added later in the expansion called Vessel of Hatred.
In this tabletop game you’ll be able to use amazing powers go deep into dangerous dungeons and collect legendary loot which means rare and powerful items. You'll also be able to gather lots of gold defeat scary enemies and enjoy the feeling of becoming a true hero with a big name and a great story. All of that sounds really fun and exciting for fans of the series.
As for when you can get your hands on it Diablo The Roleplaying Game is planning to come out sometime in the last part of this year which means between October and December. The game will be launching through a Kickstarter campaign but it hasn’t started yet.
