Riot says it will carefully watch how many people want to buy its League of Legends card game Riftbound because so many fans are trying to pre-order it that the website is getting a lot of traffic and is very busy.
It’s very clear that a lot of people are extremely excited about Riftbound the new League of Legends trading card game (TCG). Many fans have been waiting a long time for it and now it’s finally getting an English version this year which has made the excitement even stronger. Earlier today on August 4 the pre-orders for Riftbound officially went live. But almost right away within just a few minutes the game seemed to sell out completely.
Players who wanted to buy the first set of Riftbound which is called Origins had a very hard time. Many fans rushed to get their decks and card packs but they ran into lots of problems. The checkout system on Riot Games website crashed for many people and the whole site had issues. Some players couldn’t finish their orders while others had to try again and again.
Because so many people were trying to pre-order the game at the same time it caused chaos and now Riot Games has admitted that there were problems. They have said that they are watching the situation carefully and will be keeping a close eye on the demand. The company wants to make sure that everyone who wants to play Riftbound can actually get a copy and enjoy the game.
I still remember when Riot Games first announced Riftbound. At that time the game didn’t even have its final name it was just called Project K. This happened at the end of last year and it came as a big surprise to many fans. No one expected Riot to turn League of Legends into a physical card game something like Magic The Gathering. But when you think about it more it actually makes a lot of sense. The world of Runeterra where League of Legends is set is full of interesting characters powerful abilities different factions and deep stories. All of these things work really well in a trading card game so Riftbound feels like the perfect next step for Riot to take.
One of the biggest questions people had before today was this Would fans of League of Legends or even just people who enjoy trading card games (TCGs) actually be interested in this new card game called Riftbound? Some of these fans know the world of Riot Games because they play games like League of Legends Teamfight Tactics or Legends of Runeterra. Others may know the world from the popular Netflix show Arcane. But still nobody knew for sure if they would be excited enough to try this new card game.
Well after what happened today we now have a very clear answer Yes they are extremely interested. In fact the demand for Riftbound was much bigger than expected.
Today Riot Games started the pre-orders for something called Riftbound Origins which is the first official card set for the game. If you have a Riot ID and your account is in good standing (meaning you haven’t broken any rules) you were allowed to place your order. But as soon as the pre-orders went live things started going wrong very quickly.
Within just a few minutes people on social media started talking about problems. Some said the products were selling out right away. Others said that items they had added to their shopping cart were suddenly disappearing. Some people couldn’t even finish checking out because the website was very slow or it stopped working completely.
About 15 minutes after the pre-orders began Riot posted a message on X (formerly Twitter). In the post they said that they were aware of the problems and were already working to fix them. This shows just how huge the demand was and how many people rushed to buy the new cards all at once.
Riot Games has now shared an official message with fans after something big happened during the pre-orders for their new card game called Riftbound. The company said that they are very thankful for all the support and excitement that players have shown for the game even before it has come out in English. They said they are truly humbled which means they feel grateful and amazed by how many people want to try the game.
The problem was that so many people tried to pre-order Riftbound at the same time that the online store got overloaded. Because of the huge number of visitors the website had serious problems. Many fans saw slow loading had errors at checkout or couldn’t complete their orders. It caused a lot of frustration and confusion for people who just wanted to buy the game.
Riot said that their team is now working hard to fix these problems and find ways to make the pre-order system better and smoother in the future. They are thinking about new solutions so that this kind of issue doesn't happen again when fans try to buy the game.
They also said that they are keeping a close watch on how many people want Riftbound. Since demand is so high they will try to make more copies of the game like more packs booster boxes and starter decks so that more players can get them without any trouble. Riot wants to make sure that everyone who wants to play can actually get their hands on the product easily.
Riftbound is expected to be fully released on Friday October 31. That’s the official launch day. Hopefully the process of buying the game by then won’t be as scary or difficult as the Halloween date might make it sound.
