When it comes to a typical Ubisoft open world and we already know what to expect. We will be placed in a large open world with a list of targets to defeat. It is great for those who enjoy running around attacking bandit camps and taking down enemies but it doesn’t really support complex storytelling.
Assassin's Creed Shadows players have been realizing this for the past month as the game was falling into a very familiar trap of Ubisoft's open worlds. Unfortunately Many people especially on the Assassin's Creed subreddit are getting frustrated with the focus on player freedom in Ubisoft games.
Assassin's Creed Fans Demand More Linear Stories After Shadows
In a new post that's garnering a lot of support a user said they were disappointed when Assassin's Creed Shadows story stuck even after it started. The user says that because characters can do whatever they want they do not grow or learn anything important. They also feel that modern games don't have the memorable moments like older games did.
Many fans, like SadKazoo agree with this opinion. They feel the game's story is too sad because it doesn't reference past events and wish Ubisoft would create an Assassin's Creed game with a clear progressive main story.
Many also want Ubisoft to go back to the structure that Assassin's Creed Origins adopted. A user named NoNefarius2144 likes that Origins lets you complete objectives in any order. However they feel that the game interrupts the main missions too much. The Assassin's Creed formula seems a bit messy so hopefully Hexey will improve it.
