Hidden Shrek Reference in the Opening of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 You Need to See

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 mentions Shrek in the first few minutes of its prologue and there are more references to the series later in the game.

It's only a few months into 2025 but it's already a great year for gaming with titles like Monster Hunter Wilds Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Blue Prince and many others. Despite all these amazing games one has stood out and is already being talked about for Game of the Year Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Since it was first revealed Clair Obscur has created a lot of buzz and early reviews show it is living up to the hype. If you are still unsure about Expedition 33 despite the good reviews its unexpected love for Shrek might convince you. It definitely convinced me.

The start of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 introduces us to its world the idea of Gommages and some key characters. It's a touching introduction that will likely make you want to play the game right away. Plus there is a fun little easter egg hidden on a rooftop.

Twitter user BlueJayvideos noticed that when you control Gustave and use the grapple hook around Lumiere you can spot an outhouse on one of the buildings. It is a bit strange but if you look closely you will see it has a crescent moon shape on the front which looks exactly like the one from the Shrek movies.

In case If you were unsure about the reference to Shrek BlueJayvideos noticed that the outhouse shows up again later in the game. It even includes a house shaped like Shrek's swamp. It is clear that the team at Sandfall are fans of Shrek and wanted to add some fun references to the series.
