PlayStation Plus Subscription Price Hike Coming Soon Here's What You Need to Know

If you live in South America Oceania, or certain Asian countries the cost of your PlayStation Plus subscription will increase. In total more than 20 regions with including Australia and South Korea, will be affected by these changes with Sony attributing the sharp increase to global market conditions.

As of now, these changes will take effect next week April 16. So If you are currently a PlayStation Plus subscriber you won't see any changes until your next billing date June 24 or later. That said, if you make any changes to your subscription, such as changing/downgrading tiers, those changes will be reflected immediately.

This price change will help us keep offering high-quality games and extra benefits for your PlayStation Plus subscription.

As Insider Gaming reported, users in Brazil will now have to pay 546.90 Brazilian Reals for a 12-month PS Plus Extra subscription, which represents a 12 percent increase. This comes to about $92 when converted to USD while North American customers pay $99.99 for a 12-month Extra plan.


While the price changes ensure a consistent global pricing strategy, they appear to not take into account various global economic factors that make the price hike less acceptable.

However North America Not Affected by Subscription Price Increase

So far it looks like PlayStation gamers in North America will be exempt from these price hikes, though that could change eventually.

The last time PS Plus increased in the NA region was in mid-2023. At the The Essentials Extra and Premium tiers were priced at $59.99, $99.99, and $119.99. However, with the increase they reach $79.99, $134.99 and $159.99.

While Sony said the price increase in 2023 is due to the global market, and it will help them provide high-quality games and extra benefits for PlayStation Plus.

In October, one player spent nearly $1400 to buy out their PS Plus subscription from now until 2048 to avoid similar situations. Friday's news cluster will likely influence others to do the same, so further increases are expected.
