Sometimes when a game takes ideas from too many places it can feel messy. But if you carefully choose the best parts and add your own unique style you can create something great. That's what The Shadow Syndicate seems to be. It's an action game with elements of LA Noire, Hitman, GTA and Max Payne and I’m very excited to play it.

Before even watching the trailer the first thing you will notice about The Shadow Syndicate is its art style. It shows 1930s Brooklyn with characters that are human-animal hybrids similar to Bojack Horseman. The comic book look is dark and gritty. The game gives off an LA Noire vibe even though it is set on the East Coast in the 1920s. There are old wagons stylish outfits and you play as Sam Marlowe a retired soldier turned detective. The story involves a conspiracy with secret societies occult forces and a growing darkness threatening the city.

Marlowe a humanoid husky explores the city to gather evidence make connections and fight bad guys. You can be loud using guns or special powers from your Sacrifice Ring but stealth is also important. You can sneak around take enemies down quietly and enter hideouts without being seen.

If you go weapons free you can use bullet time to slow things down just like Max Payne. And yes you can dive around like an action movie star. It's awesome.

Solving crimes and taking down bad guys is tough work. Even a dog detective needs a break. That’s why like in Grand Theft Auto there are fun minigames to enjoy. You can have a drink with NPCs play blackjack or get good at darts there’s lots to do when you are not working on a case.

The Shadow Syndicate is set for release sometime in 2026. If you are interested you can add it to your Steam wishlist now. I'm definitely adding it to mine.
