Anoxia Station is a city-building game with a scary dark horror twist. It cleverly flips the ideas of games like Cities: Skylines 2 and Frostpunk.
In most city-building games your goal is to grow build more roads, houses and businesses. Anoxia Station does the opposite. You're in charge of a mining base deep underground and digging into new rock is dangerous. You might hit radiation magma, or wake a giant underground monster. You have very little space So all your buildings generators, refineries, water pumps must be crammed close together. It's dark, cramped and tense. The screen shows dripping water and flickering static adding to the creepy feel. While it’s similar to games like Cities Skylines 2 and Frostpunk Anoxia Station makes city-building feel scary and different.
It's the year 1988 and Earth’s surface is destroyed by too many people and too much industry. The only way for people to survive is to dig deep into the ground to find the last bits of oil and turn it into energy. In Anoxia Station, each level takes you deeper underground.
You have to deal with low oxygen little water and dangerous radiation. Each time you take resources from the old rocks the ground shakes and you have to move your base deeper underground and start again. Machines turn water into air you can breathe. Radio towers help you find more oil. It’s a tough strategy game where every bit of land is a challenge.
Deep in the dark there are giant moths huge weevils and other horrible creatures that are hard to describe. Automated defenses can protect you and your team. You can also play calming music to try and distract your miners, scientists and mechanics from the monsters outside. But on Anoxia Station everything feels like a race against time. Unlike most city-building games that let you create something beautiful this one traps you in darkness and forces you to face its nightmares.
Anoxia Station like Solium Infernum is one of the top 4X games on PC. It simplifies the systems and menus making every choice and resource use crucial.
