With the launch just a few weeks away Funcom has started a new Dune Awakening beta giving you one last chance to try the survival game.
Dune Awakening has a well-known IP unique survival mechanics and a shared world full of exciting moments making it a strong contender to be a top hit this year even with tough competition. With the launch just a month away Funcom is giving players a last chance to try it out before the release as the big large-scale beta has started. Even though it’s invite-only the number of players on Steam is already high and getting access might be easier than expected.
Dune Awakening is a survival game where you face challenges based on the Dune universe. The story is set in an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides was never born and a civil war is happening. In the game you deal with dangers like sandworms heat stroke, dehydration and enemies making survival more unique than usual.
Building and crafting are also a big part of the game just like its main rivals. You can build things like shelters to protect yourself from the hot sun or create an ornithopter to fly to new parts of the map. There's a lot to build.
Dune Awakening stands out by focusing on multiplayer and MMO features. You'll share the game world with other players and you can chat with them using text and proximity chat. There are safe areas to socialize PvP maps and challenging PvE experiences with raids or dungeons. The game also has a trading system where you can buy and sell items with other players. There are many features in the game.
Funcom is hosting a closed Steam beta for Dune Awakening to show how everything works on a larger scale. Although closed betas can be hard to join there are several ways to get in. If you've pre-ordered the game on Steam you are in as Funcom has opened up access for those who’ve already committed. You can also join by requesting access on the Steam page signing up on the official website or watching the Dune Awakening LAN Party Broadcast on Twitch tomorrow May 10, at 12pm PDT / 3pm EDT / 8pm BST / 9pm CEST.
Unlike past tests there are no NDAs now. If you get in you can share videos and talk about the game or even stream it. If you're not selected you can watch other creators to get a feel for it.
The beta is already filled with players just hours after it launched. Right now over 17,000 players are exploring Arrakis and that number will keep growing over the weekend. This is a good sign for the Dune Awakening release in about five weeks.
The Dune Awakening beta is happening now and will end on Monday May 12, at 2:59 PM PDT / 5:59 PM EDT / 10:59 PM BST / 11:59 PM CEST.
