GTA 6 Delay Brings Relief to Rivals, Say Industry Analysts

Just in case you missed it though you probably didn’t Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed. It will now come out on May 26 2026 which is over a year from now.

After Rockstar Games and Take-Two made a surprising announcement reports say employees didn’t think the game could be finished by Fall 2025. Experts also said the delay could affect the gaming industry including other studios that planned to release games around the same time.

GamesRadar first reported that several industry experts explained why GTA 6 was delayed and shared how big of an impact the game could have had if it was released on time.

Dr. Serkan Toto the boss of a Japanese game consulting company said that other game studios are probably feeling relieved. Since GTA 6 is delayed they don’t have to worry about it stealing all the attention for now.

With GTA not coming out this year. Toto thinks Nintendo and the Switch 2 have a great chance to shine in 2025. Now Nintendo has about six months to get ready and promote a strong holiday line-up he said.

Joost van Dreunen a professor at NYU agreed with many of the same ideas and said that without GTA 6 taking all the attention the last part of the year will be easier for other game companies.

Van Dreunen explained that Rockstar’s delay is a planned decision. He said the delay is not a mistake. but rather Rockstar taking its time to find the best moment. GTA 6 will now release in May 2026 which will give it a larger audience less competition and more control over its story.

According to analysts publishers and developers will need to create their own excitement without GTA to help them. However this also gives them a new opportunity that did not exist before. In other words the impact of GTA 6 on the industry is huge and hard to believe.
