Nightmare Frontier is a new game by the creator of Hard West 2 and Rogue Waters. It looks like a mix of Hunt Showdown and XCOM 2.
Ice Code Games known for Hard West 2 and Rogue Waters focuses on combining tactical combat with supernatural history. Hard West and its sequel are set in a demon-filled 19th-century American West while Rogue Waters offers pirate strategy in monster-infested seas. Their new project Nightmare Frontier will mix elements of Hunt Showdown and XCOM 2.
Nightmare Frontier seems similar to the Hard West games at first. It's also a strategy game set in the American West where players face dangerous monsters. However it takes a different approach focusing on a risk-reward style of design instead of Hard West's formula.
In Nightmare Frontier players lead a group of scavengers searching for loot in a town attacked by Dreadweavers. Like in games like Hunt Showdown players must decide how long to fight and gather rewards while the danger increases. They must escape before they lose what they have collected. When not fighting players craft and upgrade their gear using resources and unlock new skills for the next battle.
