After releasing the Stellaris 4.0 Phoenix update and the new Biogenesis DLC Paradox is working to make the 4X game better.
The Stellaris 4.0 update was called Phoenix to represent the game's revival after nine years. Released alongside the Biogenesis DLC it was meant to bring major improvements to the game. However it didn't go as planned. Game director Stephen Eladrin Muray admitted that the update had issues and apologized for disappointing players. He promised that the team is working on fixes.
Some people might think the new Stellaris DLC Biogenesis didn't do well based on Steam reviews. but it's actually getting a lot of praise. Many players say it's one of the best updates for the game in terms of both theme and gameplay. However bugs, lag and crashes from the 4.0 update have caused Biogenesis to have a mostly negative rating on Steam.
Biogenesis is a great addition and I'm really proud of what we've done with it Muray writes in Stellaris Dev Diary 383. However I have to admit that like the name suggests the free patch that comes with Biogenesis has had some issues. Before the release I was sure we could finish the updates and fix the major bugs. Unfortunately we didn't meet that goal. but we're dedicated to fixing everything until the 4.0 release is ready.
Muray says they thought about delaying the release. but he wanted to keep it away from the summer holidays. I didn’t want to repeat what happened with version 2.2 where we couldn’t fully support the game after launch and it stayed broken for too long he explains.
Muray believes the changes in version 4.0 like those in 2.2 will make Stellaris better and provide a solid foundation for future growth. The update brings major changes to pops and trade routes aiming to make the game run smoother in the late game and set the stage for future improvements.
Several hotfixes have already been released to fix some big issues. but work is still in progress. Another major update Stellaris 4.0.5 will be available on Thursday May 8 and it will also kick off a free weekend on Steam. Muray says the team is working on a memory problem that causes slowdowns during gameplay and they're also updating the game’s language support. I'm really grateful for our fans passion and apologize for letting you down he adds.
If you try Stellaris for free on Steam this weekend and like it. you can get it at a 75% discount. It's on sale for $9.99 / £8.74 until Monday, May 19.
