Dark Gothic RPG The Necromancer’s Tale Drops New Demo

This new indie game looks great. It mixes the detective work from Disco Elysium the fighting from Baldur's Gate 3 and the bloody action of Diablo.

I really enjoy fantasy games like Fable and World of Warcraft but I’m especially drawn to dark and gritty worlds. I love the bleak atmosphere of Diablo’s Sanctuary and the dirty dangerous feel of Dragon Age’s Deep Roads and Wilds. For every bit of magic or beauty. I want just as much blood and chaos. The Necromancer's Tale looks perfect for me it’s full of gore, has a mystery-solving system like Disco Elysium and uses turn-based combat similar to Baldur’s Gate 3. If any game feels made for me it’s this one.

You play as the Necromancer a secretive magic user in the 1800s. In this time people fear magic especially raising the dead and controlling them. To avoid trouble you’ll need to be clever and friendly with the people you meet. If they find out your secret things could end badly for you.

The Necromancer's Tale is all about the story. It has over 180 characters and lots of dialogue around 40,000 words. Like in Disco Elysium how you talk to people in town really matters. You can be friendly charming or threatening to get what you want. But if the townsfolk don’t trust you your choices might backfire. Make too many enemies and they might come after you with pitchforks that clearly have been used before.

You can choose to let the game solve fights for you. So you can focus on the story without worrying about strategy or using magic. But if you like fighting the battles work like other turn-based RPGs with different weapons and enemies like the undead to fight.

For me the best thing is the game's world. The Necromancer's Tale looks really beautiful. It takes place in the 1800s a time when magic was changing into science. I think this world is very interesting and I am excited to explore Psychic Software's dark fantasy version of it.
