Azrael's Tear is a 1996 adventure game similar to Gabriel Knight 3, Beneath a Steel Sky and Myst. It has just been re-released on GOG.
In the 1990s many adventure games were released and some of them became all-time classics like Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango and King's Quest 6. But there were also other great games that didn’t get as much attention and slowly faded into obscurity. One such hidden gem is Azrael’s Tear. It mixes mystery and conspiracy themes similar to Deus Ex or Gabriel Knight 3 with a first-person view like Myst and Riven creating a unique experience. Now nearly 30 years after its original release Azrael’s Tear is finally easier to play again thanks to a re-release on GOG.
The game takes place in the early 3000s where you play as a special kind of futuristic archaeologist known as a Raptor. Your mission is to find the Holy Grail and use its power to help a broken world. The story leads you deep into an ancient underground temple once used by the Knights Templar. There you'll explore a large, maze-like world filled with strange creatures, secrets and challenges as you search for the legendary Grail.
Azrael's Tear is a game from an older time so it has many puzzles to solve. You explore the game world from a first-person view just like in the game Myst. But unlike Myst Azrael's Tear also has different characters you meet along the way. These include ghosts, knights and even mutant dinosaurs according to its description on the GOG store.
If this sounds interesting to you you can try the game now. Azrael's Tear is available on GOG with a special 10% discount. This means you can buy it for $8.60 USD or £7.69. You can get your copy right here.
