Drinkbox Studios the maker of Guacamelee and Nobody Saves the World has announced Blighted. It is a new action Metroidvania game with a cool and unique look.
Drinkbox Studios a game maker from Canada has made fun and colorful games like Guacamelee and Nobody Saves the World. I really like these games especially the first Guacamelee because it looks amazing with its Mexican and luchador style. Now Drinkbox has done it again with their new game Blighted Which mixes great graphics with dark and spooky themes in a way I didn’t expect.
Drinkbox Studios says Blighted is a tough action game called a Metroidvania set in a strange dream-like Wild West world. In this world people are buried with seeds in their brains. These seeds grow into trees and the fruit holds their memories. But something bad happened Sorcisto a bad guy ate brains the wrong way and caused a dangerous disease called the Blight. Now you have to stop Sorcisto and save your people's memories before the Blight takes over you too.
If you like Hades you will find Blighted’s combat and look very familiar. You need to time your attacks well to avoid the blighted beasts and make combos to finish them off. You also have the Blight infection which makes the world change all the time. Drinkbox Studios uses the Blight to change how hard the game is based on how you feel. But you can eat the brains of bosses you beat to get stronger.
The team says that when you face many layers of Blight you will see new parts of the world find hidden places and use new game features. You will need these bonuses because you will explore old lost civilizations, scary nightmares and more. Like in Drinkbox’s other games Blighted will challenge your skills a lot so try to stay calm while playing.
This new Metroidvania game can be tough but there is a way to make it easier. Drinkbox is adding a co-op mode where players can join or leave anytime. This will help make the game’s challenges feel less hard.
Drinkbox Studios says their game Blighted will come out on PC and consoles in 2026. They hope to release a playable demo later this year.
