I never found a Stardew Valley-like game I really liked but Neverway is just what I wanted.
Neverway is a game that is part life simulator and part role-playing game. You play as Fiona a woman who just quit her job. She goes on a boat to a faraway island and starts living on a farm. But soon she becomes the immortal host for a dead god which is unlucky. Your job is to manage Fiona’s life while trying to find Neverway a strange other world that is slowly mixing with her world.
During the Day of the Devs event, they showed that time in the game moves through morning, afternoon and evening. Isadora Sophia a coder and writer said this lets you play at your own speed. You can decide when to fight or take a break and hang out with your friends.
Fighting in the game is like other life simulation games but a little different. You can make different weapons and swap your sword for things like a grapple hook. Making friends with people in the game will give you upgrades to customize how you fight.
You can make friends and even romance more than ten different characters. Each character has their own daily habits and personality. They also have special scenes and things they like or don’t like. If you want to stay with them or use their powers, you need to gain their trust. You can choose to be honest or trick them. As the Neverway slowly affects our world you will face some tough decisions.
For me what makes Neverway special is its art style. The dark purples and bright greens give it a strange, twisted feel like a different version of Stardew Valley but with a fresh and surprising look.
