It’s hard to believe but it’s been over 18 months since the sci-fi action RPG Gatekeeper first caught my eye with its early Steam demo. Now this Diablo-style game is almost ready to leave early access. Developer Gravity Lagoon has announced that Gatekeeper 1.0 will launch in early August. They also revealed the game’s ninth playable character a powerful slow-moving tank that’s perfect for players who find the faster characters hard to control.

Gatekeeper is a fast-paced action game where you move quickly fight big groups of enemies and use powerful abilities to defeat them. It mixes this action with the run-based style of games like Risk of Rain and Hades. Set in a cool sci-fi world it also lets up to four players play together. Players really like it it has a very positive rating on Steam with an 84% score.

Gravity Lagoon has been adding new content since its early access launch. On Friday, August 1 it will release Gatekeeper 1.0 the full version of the game. This update includes the final boss fight a new set of artifacts more places to explore new events and extra missions. It also adds a new character called Aegis who uses long-range attacks and sets up turrets to control the fight before dealing heavy damage.

Aegis used to be a commander of the Delta Guardians. But after falling into a crystal well in an arcana mine his body was changed by the crystals and his mind got lost in a place called the Nowhere. Now he’s part of the Gatekeepers and uses crystal powers to fight enemies. His first move Splinter is a straight-line attack that hits multiple enemies and gets stronger with each one it hits.

Aegis can place Glyphons which are turrets that stay in one spot. When Aegis stands near them they help take some of the damage for him. He starts with one Glyphon but as his skill gets stronger he can put down many and make a strong defense. His third skill lets him enter a special state where he leaves a fake copy of himself behind. This helps him move through enemies to run away or sneak around. When this skill gets better the fake copy can attract enemies and explode with a cloud that makes enemies weaker when it breaks.

Gravity Lagoon says Aegis ultimate skill Ascension is their most powerful and flashy move. When used, Aegis moves slower but he and his turrets shoot bigger splinters very fast. These splinters can go through many enemies and refill the Ascension meter with every kill. This lets you quickly turn a crowded fight into a clear empty area.

Aegis is an easy-to-use character who can cause a lot of damage but moves slowly. Before the 1.0 launch Gravity Lagoon will add many helpful updates and exciting changes to the game. If you want to play now you can buy it on Steam at a discount.

Gatekeeper 1.0 will come out on Friday, August 1. Before that you can buy it for 25% less until Thursday, June 26. That means it costs $11.24 or £9.74 now. Get the game here if you want to save the Heart of Time.
