Remedy’s new game FBC Firebreak which continues the story from Alan Wake and Control isn’t doing well on Steam right now but it could still bounce back.
FBC Firebreak is a game made by Remedy and it has their special style. In the game you team up with two other players so there are three of you in a group. Together you enter the Federal Bureau of Control building to fight strange and scary creatures from other worlds. You get to use many different weapons gadgets and tools to help you win. These tools are very important because you will face many kinds of enemies. Some look like humans while others are terrifying monsters from other dimensions. You will also have to deal with a strange problem lots of sticky notes that cause trouble and keep coming back.
But right now many players don’t think the game is very good. On the Steam platform it has mostly negative reviews. Only 38% of the reviews are positive from about 250 players. The most common complaint is that there is not enough to do in the game, so players get bored quickly.
The game does not have a lot of content especially for what you would expect from a full 1.0 release. It is fun to play especially when using the pogo, but overall the game needs many more features and things to do. One player said it wouldn’t feel so bad if the game was cheaper when it launched because right now it feels expensive for what it offers. Another player said that in its current condition they cannot recommend buying the game. They agree it is fun but it still needs a lot of improvements before it is worth the money.
Some players are being a bit nicer about Firebreak even though they wish Remedy would keep making the kind of games they’re known for. They say the new game doesn’t have the cool superpowers and physics that made the original Control game special. The game still has a good atmosphere and looks nice but it feels like a regular co-op shooter without the unique things that made Control different from other games.
Even with these complaints there are some important things to remember. First Firebreak costs $40 on Steam but if you play on PlayStation or Xbox you might pay less. The game is included with both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. This doesn’t change what people say about the game not having enough content but it does mean some console players can play it without paying extra money.
The Remedy team has shared plans for two big updates for FBC coming in 2025. These updates will make the game even better and bigger. Over the next few months you will see new jobsites to explore new gameplay features to try new equipment to use and new enemies to fight. Plus there will be free rewards that you can earn just by playing. These changes will add a lot of fresh and exciting content to the game.
