Valheim Reveals First Look at Deep North Dungeon Adventure
Summer has arrived for players in the Northern Hemisphere and that means the Valheim Midsummer Crown and Maypole are back in the game. It’s a fun way to enjoy the warmer season in this Viking survival adventure. But don’t get too comfortable Valheim’s Deep North biome is nothing like summer. This icy region is the last big area that still needs to be completed, and it’s coming with the game’s full 1.0 update. The developers at Iron Gate just revealed a scary new dungeon that will be part of this frozen zone.

It’s been a while since Iron Gate followed its original roadmap. Instead the team has been working step by step toward finishing the game. Now only two big updates remain before Valheim leaves early access. First we’ll get a combat update, and then the Deep North biome will be added marking the full release of one of the best Viking-themed games out there.

Iron Gate recently shared an update about upcoming combat improvements. One of the main goals is to make fighting on slopes better and more natural. They're also adding new armor sets which should make all battles feel more exciting and solid. In a new teaser they've also shown archery targets. These targets will help players improve their aim and see how close their arrows land to the center. The best part? You can pick up and reuse all the arrows and bolts you shoot.

It’s a good idea to practice your aim now because more challenges are coming. A new video from Iron Gate's Voyage of Hervor Bloodtooth series shows our first look at a dungeon in the Deep North. It's called the Winding Tunnels and it already looks much scarier than the Infested Mines in the Mistlands or the Charred Fortresses in the Ashlands. The tunnels are tight, dark and creepy and it’s clear that something dangerous might be waiting inside.

Put all thoughts of the frozen depths out of your mind for now, then. Instead take advantage of the ongoing seasonal event right now and through the end of the first week of July, you can craft the Maypole and Midsummer Crown in Valheim. The former is a comfort-granting structure requiring wood dandelions and thistles while the latter is a decorative armor piece that you can make from ten dandelions at any workbench. Isn't that much more pleasant than searching for shifting shadows in the depths while we wait for word of the Valheim Deep North release date?

Are you excited to start a new Valheim adventure and can't wait for the next update to arrive? Don’t worry there are plenty of amazing Valheim mods that can make your new playthrough even more fun and interesting. These mods can add new features improve the game or just make things more exciting. And if you're looking for more games to enjoy with friends check out the best co-op games of 2025.
