Anthem is a multiplayer action game made by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts (EA). It was released on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. When the game first came out many people were excited but it did not become very popular. It did not get a lot of players and many people were disappointed with how the game worked.
Now after a few years EA has decided to shut down Anthem completely. On Thursday the company said that Anthem will stop working on January 12, 2026. That means people can still play the game until that date but after that the servers will go offline and no one will be able to play it anymore.
Also EA has already stopped selling the game's premium currency which players could buy with real money to use inside the game. Anthem was BioWare’s first game that tried to run as a live service which means it was meant to keep updating and changing over time. But since it did not get enough players, EA has decided to end it.
EA Will Shut Down Anthem Here's What That Means
EA has announced that it will shut down the online game Anthem. This means the game will stop working in the future. According to the update on EA’s official website the Anthem game servers will stay active until January 12, 2026. After that date players will not be able to log in or play the game anymore. That’s because Anthem is an online-only game which means it needs internet servers to work. Once those servers go offline the game will stop working for everyone.
EA said We have something important to share about Anthem. After thinking about it carefully we have decided to shut the game down on January 12, 2026.
So players still have over 180 days (or about 6 months) to enjoy the game. However from now on you can no longer buy premium currency in the game. If you already have some premium currency left in your account you can still use it until the servers go offline in 2026.
In simple words you can still play Anthem for a few more months but after January 12 2026 the game will stop forever.
You can’t buy Anthem from online stores anymore. But if you already bought the game earlier you can still download it from your library and play it as long as the servers are working. EA also said that Anthem will be removed from the EA Play game list on August 15, 2025. Don’t worry no one at BioWare will lose their job because of this shutdown.
Anthem came out on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was very different from the usual single-player story games BioWare is known for. Anthem was an online multiplayer game but it didn’t get enough regular players. Because of this BioWare stopped working on new updates in 2021.
BioWare was once known for making very popular single-player games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. But in recent years, the company has not been doing so well. It has been hard for them to make big hit games like before. After the release of Dragon Age The Veilguard things got worse because the game did not sell as much as EA had hoped. Because of this many people working at BioWare lost their jobs. Some were moved to other EA teams and some were just let go. Now the BioWare team has become much smaller with less than 100 people still working there.
Right now BioWare is focusing on making a new Mass Effect game. The good news is that this project is being led by some of the same people who made the original Mass Effect trilogy which fans really loved. These people include Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley and a few others who have worked on Mass Effect before.
