Kunitsu-Gami's Big Update Denuvo Gone Gamers Rejoice

Capcom has removed Denuvo from its 2024 action-strategy game Kunitsu-Gami and I can easily recommend it for its fun hack-and-slash gameplay.
Kunitsu-Gami's Big Update Denuvo Gone Gamers Rejoice
The year 2024 had a lot of great games. Players enjoyed hits like Balatro which became super popular Helldivers 2 with its over-the-top action and the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. But for me the biggest and best surprise of the year was Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess. This game reminded me of the older days of Capcom when they made classics like Okami Onimusha and Viewtiful Joe. Now Kunitsu-Gami has turned one year old and to celebrate Capcom has released a special anniversary update. This update includes a cool 8-bit style gift and it also removes Denuvo a type of anti-piracy software that many players don’t like because it can affect performance.

I could talk for hours about how much I love Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess but if you want a full and detailed review you should check out Lauren’s review she gave it a 9 out of 10 and praised it a lot. In the game you play as a warrior named Soh. Your job is to protect a divine maiden named Yoshiro. She is trying to purify a huge mountain called Mount Kafuku which has been taken over by evil forces. As Soh you have to fight off many creepy and strange monsters. But you don’t fight alone. You can also guide the villagers you rescue and tell them what to do.

The gameplay is a mix of action and strategy. You can use different combos in combat and unlock new skills and gear through a skill tree. It’s very satisfying and deep. But the real twist is how you can assign rescued villagers to different roles like archers sumo wrestlers or priests. Then you can place them wherever you want on the map to help defend against waves of enemies. This gives the game a fun tower defense feel. That’s what makes Kunitsu-Gami stand out it’s both a great action game and a smart strategy game all in one.

Kunitsu-Gami is a beautiful game with amazing graphics and music. I really enjoyed playing it and would definitely tell others to try it. Now the game has a special update to celebrate its anniversary. This update adds a new Mazo Talisman called Yashichi Waves which changes the background music to a fun old-style 8-bit version like classic retro games. That’s not all Capcom also added a new game mode called Otherworldy Venture. In this mode the game’s usual day-and-night cycle becomes an endless loop and your goal is to survive for as long as you can.

Also as part of this anniversary update released on Friday July 11 Capcom has removed Denuvo from the Steam version of Kunitsu-Gami. Denuvo is a type of software that protects games from piracy but many players complain that it can make games run slower. The company behind Denuvo says this is not true but it's still a topic of debate in the gaming community.

Now Capcom has decided to remove Denuvo from Kunitsu-Gami just like they have done with other games in the past. They have also removed it from games like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter World. However it is still included in some newer games like Monster Hunter Wilds.

Personally I really loved playing Kunitsu-Gami. I didn’t know much about it at first I just thought it looked interesting. But once I started I couldn’t stop. I tried really hard to get perfect scores in all the missions. The game feels like a mix of old-style gameplay with modern features. It doesn’t take too long to finish about 15 to 20 hours but it’s the kind of game that stays in your memory for a long time.
