Bungie Admits Destiny 2 Is Confusing for New Players

Destiny 2’s assistant game director says Bungie wants to improve the game for new players by making it more organized and easier to understand in the future.
Bungie Admits Destiny 2 Is Confusing for New Players
I’m new to Destiny 2 and this is my first real time playing it. A long time ago back in 2014 I tried Bungie’s earlier online shooter. but I didn’t stick with it. Now more than ten years later I’ve finally come back to try Destiny again and I have to say I’m really enjoying it. The game is fun exciting and full of cool moments. But even though I’m having a great time I have to admit something Destiny 2 can be very confusing for new players like me.

There is just so much to do. There are tons of different activities game modes, missions, currencies, weapons, upgrades and mechanics. Sometimes it feels like I’m getting lost in a sea of options. I don’t always know what to do next or what’s important. It can be overwhelming. Thankfully I’m not the only one who feels this way and it looks like Bungie the developer of the game knows it too.

One of the developers Destiny 2’s assistant game director recently said that the team is working on making the game easier for new players to understand and enjoy. They want to give players a more curated experience which means they want to guide people better especially those who are just starting out. That way it won’t feel so overwhelming when you jump in for the first time.

This is a good time for Bungie to make these changes because Destiny 2 is going through a big transformation. A new expansion called The Edge of Fate is about to launch soon. It will begin a whole new story arc called the Fate Saga which is set to bring big changes to the game’s world and storytelling.

Also Bungie is updating how armor and gear work making those systems easier to use and more interesting. Another helpful feature coming soon is the new Portal activity screen which will help players quickly choose what they want to do in the game whether that’s a mission a raid a PvP match or something else.

Destiny 2 is already considered one of the best first-person shooter games out there. It has great gunplay exciting missions and a huge universe to explore. And now with all these improvements on the way it could become even better especially for new players like me who are just beginning their journey.

Right now Destiny 2’s open access event is live and that means a lot of new players and even some old ones who stopped playing are jumping back into the game. Many people are entering Bungie’s huge sci-fi world for the very first time. As someone who is also trying Destiny 2 for the first time I can honestly say that it can feel very confusing and overwhelming at first. There are so many things to do lots of different systems, missions, powers, weapons, menus and game modes. It can be hard to know where to start or what to focus on.

Thankfully Robbie Stevens who is the assistant game director at Bungie recently had a chat with the YouTuber MrRoflWaffles in an interview. In that conversation Stevens explained what Bungie is planning to do to make the game easier for new players to understand and enjoy.

One of the main things Stevens mentioned is that Bungie wants to improve the early experience for new players. He said that the company is trying to make the game more curated which means more organized and easier to follow. They want to make it simple for new players to jump in and start playing without feeling lost. The goal is to guide players better in the beginning so they can understand the game’s basics without getting overwhelmed.

Stevens also said that Bungie is not just thinking about these changes for now they are planning for the future as well even looking beyond the upcoming Renegades expansion which is expected to be released in December this year. This means the team at Bungie is seriously thinking about how to make Destiny 2 more friendly for beginners in the long run not just for this event or this year.

He added that even experienced or regular players might enjoy a more curated experience because sometimes it's nice to have a smoother more focused session without needing to plan or figure out everything on your own. However Stevens made it clear that Bungie still wants to keep the deep and complex gameplay systems that longtime players love. They don’t want to remove the ability to customize builds try different strategies or explore all the advanced options that hardcore fans enjoy. Instead they want to balance both sides give new players a simple path and let expert players still enjoy all the depth and freedom they’re used to.

When someone starts playing Destiny 2 for the first time it can be hard to know where to begin. One of the game’s developers Stevens recently talked about this. He said that Bungie the company behind Destiny 2 knows it needs to make the game easier to understand for new players. Right now the beginning of the game doesn’t always help you learn how everything works. Stevens explained that they don’t want to treat new players like they don’t understand games at all. Most people already know the basics of how video games work so they don’t need too much help with the simple stuff.

Instead Bungie wants to focus more on giving curated experiences these are parts of the game that are carefully chosen and designed to help new players slowly learn the important systems. They want new players to get used to the game step-by-step. That way you can start to understand the deeper parts of Destiny 2 without feeling too overwhelmed. It’s like slowly dipping your feet into water before jumping in fully giving you time to learn and grow as you play.

This is especially important now because a new season of Destiny 2 is coming very soon. It’s a great time to try the game especially if you’ve never played before. As someone who’s just starting out I’ll admit that Destiny 2 can be confusing. There are a lot of menus items and gameplay features that take time to figure out. But even though I sometimes feel lost. I’m still having a lot of fun playing. The game is exciting and rewarding and it feels really good when you start to understand how everything fits together.
