Resident Evil Disaster Game Pulled Offline in Under 3 Years
Resident Evil Reverse has officially been shut down and it only lasted for less than three years after it was released. Capcom the company behind the Resident Evil series has completely taken the game offline and there’s no sign that it will ever come back again. Reverse was a multiplayer game where players could play as different heroes and villains from across the entire Resident Evil series. The idea behind the game was interesting and had potential but sadly it never really became popular. Not many players got into it. If you were one of the few people who actually liked Reverse and are feeling disappointed about its shutdown the only good news is that you can now start looking forward to the next main game in the series Resident Evil 9.

Capcom has been trying for many years to make a multiplayer version of Resident Evil that fans would enjoy. Over the last 20 years they have tried several different games like Resident Evil Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Resistance and now Reverse. But unfortunately none of them really became big hits. All of these multiplayer games had issues and didn’t do well. To help Reverse reach more players Capcom even bundled it for free with Resident Evil Village which was a mainline game in the series. However even that didn’t help much and the release of Reverse was delayed by over a year.

When Reverse finally came out it failed to attract many players. It didn’t perform well at all. On Steam the game received mostly negative reviews from users and it barely ever had more than 100 players online at the same time. This means that very few people were actually playing the game. Even though Capcom had big hopes for the game and wanted it to succeed as a fun multiplayer experience it just didn’t work out. It never came close to being considered one of the best multiplayer games available.

Resident Evil Re:Verse started to really come to an end earlier this year. Capcom the company that made the game announced that it would shut it down completely. On Monday, March 3 they took the game off the market so people couldn’t buy it anymore. All the extra downloadable content (DLC) was also removed from sale. At that time Capcom said that Resident Evil Re:Verse was made to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series. They thanked players and said they were surprised and happy that so many people supported the game after it came out.

Capcom also said that now the Resident Evil series is moving in a new direction and because of that they felt Re:Verse had already done what it was made for it helped celebrate the series long history.

Then on Sunday, June 29 Capcom officially shut down the game for good. Now you won’t get a free copy of Re:Verse when you buy Resident Evil Village like you used to. Even if you already have the game you can’t play it anymore. Capcom has completely disabled it meaning the game is now totally unplayable. From its launch to the final shutdown the game was online for less than three years before it was removed without much ceremony.

Even though Re:Verse is gone the main Resident Evil series is still going strong. In fact it’s more active than ever. At the Summer Game Fest Capcom made a surprise announcement about Resident Evil 9. The game is coming early next year and our reporter Jamie even got to try out some early gameplay. Capcom is keeping the survival horror style that fans love. In this new game you’ll play as Grace Ashcroft who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. You’ll be able to play the game in first-person or third-person view. It even looks like players will return to Raccoon City or at least what’s left of it.
