Gearbox Software is pushing the Borderlands 4 launch date up by a few weeks probably because GTA 6 is coming around that time.
Gearbox Software is moving up the release date for Borderlands 4 to avoid GTA 6. The game which was originally set for the end of September will now launch a couple of weeks earlier on all platforms. If you are excited for the game you will get to play it sooner with your friends.
Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford announced in a new Twitter/X video that Borderlands 4 will release earlier. Instead of Tuesday September 23 the game will now launch on Friday September 12.
Pitchford says Borderlands 4 will have a Sony State of Play presentation soon. where we will see more of the game. The showcase is on Wednesday April 30. at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST.
Gearbox likely moved up the release of Borderlands 4 because of Grand Theft Auto 6. I think GTA 6 will launch around late September or early October so Gearbox had to act fast to avoid Borderlands 4 getting overshadowed.
We don't know exactly when Rockstar's next game will be released. but all signs point to the end of 2025 for GTA 6. Every major game publisher with a release planned for the second half of the year will try to avoid the new GTA so it's likely Borderlands 4 is doing the same.
