The magic-based Secrets of the Coven is the second free expansion for Kingdoms, Darkest Dungeon 2's difficult and strategic new game mode.
Darkest Dungeon 2 was already a tough and challenging game but the new Kingdoms mode makes it even harder and more intense. Bringing the core experience of DD2 into a strategy game-like setting presented like a tabletop board game it ditches its turn-based combat and wonderfully grim aesthetic for a whole new experience. Developer Red Hook promised that more content known as modules would be coming for Kingdoms and now it is fulfilled it is promise with its second expansion Secrets of the Coven just out.
So If you are not ready to find out what Darkest Dungeon 2 Kingdoms is all about yet. here is a very quick rundown on the strategy game style experience. Each kingdom run is laid out in a series of tiled paths, and the goal is to stop the evil forces from taking over the land by creating a path through the tiles to reach the final boss. However encounters with their troops and followers will hinder you along the way and you will only have a limited number of days to find and defeat their leader.

Inns are also dotted around the board these are friendly sanctuaries where you can rest and recuperate but if you do not defend them well the opposing forces can take over. The game ends if you lose a certain number of inns depending on the difficulty level. When you do find yourself in a combat encounter you will be tested in the same ways as the original Darkest Dungeon 2 experience turn-based combat team composition and smart strategic decisions.
Hunger of the Beast was the name of Clan Kingdoms first module, but for this latest expansion. Red Hook is taking on a witchcraft theme. Secrets of the Coven brings a whole new challenge as you face a group of evil sorcerers. says the developer. Invisible threads of witchcraft are at work. pulling at the borders of the kingdom. Follow the clues to uncover and eradicate this mysterious mystery before their destructive influence takes root.
Along with new enemies and storylines for kingdoms the mod is also making some great quality of life improvements. You will now be able to store a minimum of three items in any inn but you can increase the number of slots to store more items. Hoarders can now buy items back from you at a fraction of the price you bought them at. There is also a new help tool that can help you choose a strong and independent team composition.
The free Secrets of the Coven update is out now and there’s also a new paid DLC called The Binding Blade. It adds two new characters: The Duelist and The Crusader.
